Two teenage girls rescued from a Sgr pond die at hospital | KNO

‘Three other girls were rescued on time’

Srinagar, May 25 (KNO): Five minor girls drowned in a pond near stone quarry at Zewan area of Srinagar of which two developed breathing issue and passed away at a hospital later. Police sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the girls were playing near a pond adjacent to stone quarry at Zewan area of Srinagar. “All of a sudden, they slipped into the pond where over the years, rain water has accumulated. Soon, a rescue operation by the locals and police was started after which three were immediately pulled out of the water and after some time two more girls also,” they said. Two girls developed breathing issue and were shifted to Sub District Hospital Pampore for treatment, where they were declared dead by the doctors. A police officer also confirmed that two of the five girls breathed their last at the hospital. “The death of girls is unfortunate,” he said. A pall of gloom descended on the families of two deceased girls at Zewan as it was only second day of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival. The deceased girls were identified as Rutba and Rounak, aged 16 and 14 respectively—(KNO)
